if you're already using estradiol, can you also use estriol on your face?

Most of the time, when someone asks this, they're using estradiol vaginal cream 0.1% to the vaginal area twice a week — that's the standard prescription. Estriol, on the other hand, is frequently marketed as an estrogen cream specifically for the face.
So can you safely use both? Yes, absolutely. Studies show there's really minimal absorption with either one, so you can use the same estradiol cream you're already using on your face, or you can get estriol, which is formulated specifically for that.
Why would you choose estriol instead? Some people just don't love the feel of vaginal estradiol on their face — it can feel sticky or heavy. Estriol tends to feel lighter and more elegant, which is why a lot of my patients prefer it up top.
One thing I don't recommend: layering both at the same time on your face. We don't have studies showing that combining them adds any benefit, so I'd stick to one or the other.
But using your vaginal estradiol as prescribed and a separate estriol cream on your face? No problem at all — I do it myself.
