Your skin barrier is damaged — and your 10-step routine is making it worse. 🛑
Here are the first two steps I walk every patient through when we need to do a full skin barrier reset:
▶ Step 1: Stop the irritation — completely. That means exfoliants, acids, scrubs, retinoids, benzoyl peroxide, vitamin C serums, exosomes… all of it. These can be incredible ingredients, but not when your barrier is compromised. You cannot exfoliate or active-ingredient your way out of a damaged barrier. You repair first, then slowly reintroduce.
▶ Step 2: Simplify your routine. This is something I feel strongly about even when your skin is healthy — but it's non-negotiable when your barrier is struggling. Strip everything back. Your skin doesn't need more right now. It needs less, and it needs the right things.
This is just the beginning of the full 8-step protocol — catch the rest in the Skin Barrier episode of The Skin Real. Available wherever you get your podcasts! 🎧
