Big sunscreen news 🚨 the FDA approved bimetrizanol (BEMT) — the first new sunscreen active ingredient in the U.S. in over 25 years.
Here's why that matters:→ Our current sunscreens are great at blocking UVB (the shorter wavelengths behind sunburn), but they're not as strong against UVA — the longer wavelengths that pass through car windows and drive deeper skin damage.→ BEMT is more photostable, meaning it holds up better in the sun over time.→ It's been safely used in Europe and Asia for decades.→ The formula is more elegant — no white cast, which matters a lot if you have more pigment in your skin.
Products won't hit shelves until around August, but I'll keep you posted the second they do — I can't wait to try it myself.
Have you tried sunscreens from Europe or Asia with this kind of filter? Tell me what you thought — and I want to hear what you think once this lands in the U.S. 👇
